State-owned electricity firm Meridian Energy has purchased a Hawke's Bay firm handling resource permission approval for a big wind farm north of Napier.
New Zealand's biggest self-owned electricity firm has purchased Hawke's Bay Wind Farm, which ever since 2006 has hold resource approval to construct up to 75 turbines on Maungaharuru Range, approximately 34 kilometers northwest of Napier Airport, on 3200 hectares of vacant farm ground.
Meridian purchased Hawke's Bay Wind Farm in September, but a firm spokeswoman shall not make public that how much it paid to purchase it.
The approval development shall be competent of make up to 225 megawatts of electricity, considerably much more than the biggest wind farm currently. Trustpower's 134-turbine Tararua wind farm is generating around 161MW.
Meridian thinks to additional investigate the plot this summer to notice how it can be best utilized, along with a concluding proposal for the site probably to be finished by the mid of next year.
